Asbestos Inspection
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral which has been used for
hundreds of years and in thousands of products. Asbestos has various
properties which make it ideal for the use in many different products:
it is plentiful; readily available; low in cost; does not burn; strong;
conducts heat and electricity poorly; and is impervious to chemical
corrosion.
Asbestos can still be found in many products purchased by consumers every day.
Some of the more common asbestos containing materials (ACM) are floor
tile, ceiling tile, pipe insulation, fire proofing material, siding and
roofing shingles, and plaster to name a few.
There are many diseases associated with the inhalation of asbestos,
as fibers accumulate in the lungs. As exposure increases, the risk of
disease also increases. People affected by asbestos experience coughing
and difficulty breathing. This can also lead to diagnosis of asbestosis,
lung cancer, or mesothelioma.
The Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS)
requires that an asbestos inspection be conducted by a DHFS Certified
Asbestos Inspector prior to demolition or renovation projects. The
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also requires an asbestos
inspection prior to any demolition or renovation projects. Building
materials that contain asbestos may have to be removed before demolition
or renovation activities, and are subject to specific waste management
regulations.
Bay Environmental Strategies, Inc. (BAY) is a registered asbestos company
and employs certified inspectors under the DHFS Wisconsin Administrative
Code ch. HFS 159.
BAY’s services include the following:
