Existing Nonmetallic Mine Services

All existing nonmetallic mines have ongoing requirements to comply with the issued permits and environmental regulations affecting the facility. Bay Environmental Strategies, Inc. (BAY) can help you comply with all of your permit requirements.

Air Requirements

Regardless of whether or not your facility needs to obtain an air permit, the operation may need the following:

  • Annual air emission inventory
  • Opacity/visual emission monitoring
  • New source performance standards (NSPS) compliance
  • Malfunction prevention & abatement plans
  • Notification of source relocation (protable plants)
  • Quality assurance plans

General Storm Water/Wastewater Permit Requirements

All nonmetallic mines are required to have a storm water/wastewater permit to operate. Having this permit may require:

  • Quarterly or annual facility inspections
  • Development of a Storm Water Pollution Prevention plan
  • Wastewater sampling
  • Completion of the annual discharge monitoring report (DMR)

EPCRA Reporting

Many operators may not realize that their facility could be subject to the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA). The operation may need to comply with the following requirements.

  • Tier II reporting
  • Emergency planning & notification
  • Form R reporting
