Audit/Walkthrough
With the potential of significant fines for non-compliance, companies
are well-advised to maintain a sound environmental program.
Performing environmental audits are one key element to maintaining
such an environmental program. If an audit reveals shortcomings
in an environmental program, a company may find relief from
fines and/or criminal prosecution by self-disclosing these
shortcomings to the appropriate regulatory authorities and
implementing a program to correct these shortcomings. BAY
is able to both provide the environmental auditing services
as well as assist in the correction of any discovered shortcomings.
Environmental Compliance Audits
Those major environmental areas commonly investigated
during an environmental audit may include but are not necessarily
limited to:
- Solid and Hazardous Waste Management
- Wastewater Industrial Pretreatment Permitting and Compliance
- Storm Water Permitting and Compliance
- Air Quality Permitting, Compliance, and Reporting
- SARA Compliance and Reporting
Regardless of the age, structure, size or complexity of a
facility, environmental audits may be very beneficial. An
older, large, and more-established company is able to use
the combined experience and knowledge of an entire consulting
staff to recognize new and/or changing regulations before
that facility finds itself out of compliance. A new, small,
or expanding company may use the audit to determine whether
or not they are at, or approaching, a level of activity with
which they should be concerned with environmental regulation.
Environmental Walkthrough
Smaller companies or those companies that question whether
or not they may even have environmental compliance issues
may benefit from BAY’s Environmental Walkthrough. This
abbreviated form of an environmental audit will research a
company’s compliance status with regards to each of
the major environmental areas; however, not to the degree
commonly associated with an extensive environmental audit.
Results of an environmental audit are presented in report-style
format. Results of an environmental walkthrough are presented
in letter format. Each report/letter will review the areas
investigated along with recommendations for improvement when
necessary. The environmental walkthrough letter will also
provide a cost estimate to perform those services necessary
to correct any recognized environmental program deficiencies.
